5302 Telephone

This may look like a normal enough 500-type telephone, but it isn’t. This is the elusive 5302. It looks like a 500 set but it is made up of parts from 302 sets. The phone company didn’t waste anything, including models that were no longer being sold. Instead of scrapping everything they found a way to transition to the newer look with the old parts.

You can see a fairly obvious difference in this phone when set side-by-side with a 500 – this one has an F-style handset, not the G-style that we have on the 500 sets. This particular model also has a cloth handset cord.

This particular set was purchased from the PEI Telephone Museum after they closed their doors. It is item T-016 in our collection.
